Partnership to focus on clean energy, EV charging, storage, and tech-driven utilities across India and global markets
NTPC Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UK-based Octopus Energy Group to explore strategic collaboration across multiple segments of the power and energy sector, including renewable energy, power distribution, and digital energy solutions.
The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026, held from March 19 to 22 under the aegis of the Ministry of Power, Government of India, in the presence of senior government officials and company representatives.
The agreement establishes a non-binding framework for cooperation between the two companies to identify, assess, and pursue opportunities in electricity distribution and retail, renewable energy and energy storage, electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, and digital energy platforms. The partnership will also focus on innovation, research and development, and capacity building initiatives.
Under the collaboration, both entities will explore opportunities across India, the United Kingdom, and other mutually agreed geographies. The partnership aims to enhance efficiency, affordability, and reliability in power supply while accelerating the adoption of clean energy solutions.
The collaboration aligns with NTPC Limited’s strategy to diversify beyond conventional power generation and expand its presence across the energy value chain, particularly in renewable energy and emerging technologies. The company has been increasing its focus on renewable capacity addition, energy storage, and new business models, including retail supply and e-mobility infrastructure.
For Octopus Energy Group, the MoU provides an opportunity to expand its footprint in India’s rapidly growing energy market. The company is known for its technology-driven approach to energy management, including advanced digital platforms for optimizing energy consumption, integrating renewable assets, and improving customer engagement.
Industry stakeholders expect such collaborations to play a key role in supporting India’s energy transition by enabling the integration of renewable energy, improving grid flexibility, and advancing digitalization in the power sector.
While the MoU is non-binding, it is expected to pave the way for potential joint initiatives and pilot projects that could contribute to the development of a more efficient and technology-driven energy ecosystem.
