Powertrac Group Invests ₹600 Crore in 1,000 MWh BESS Manufacturing Facility in India

Powertrac Group to invest ₹600 crore in 1 GWh battery storage manufacturing, eyes 1 GW IPP portfolio by 2030.Powertrac Group announcing ₹600 crore investment for 1 GWh containerized BESS manufacturing facility in IndiaAhmedabad Base Renewable energy solutions provider Powertrac Group has announced plans to invest ₹600 crore to establish a 1,000 MWh (1 GWh per annum) containerized Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility in India, marking a significant expansion into grid-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable solutions.

The proposed facility will focus on manufacturing containerized BESS solutions for utility-scale and commercial applications, aligning with rising demand for storage-backed renewable energy projects across the country.

Focus on LFP Battery Packs and In-House BMS

According to the company, the new plant will manufacture lithium iron phosphate (LFP)-based battery pack assemblies, a chemistry widely preferred for grid storage due to its safety profile, thermal stability, and long cycle life.

The facility will also support in-house Battery Management System (BMS) development and integration, enabling tighter control over performance, safety, and system optimization. This vertical integration strategy is expected to improve reliability and reduce dependence on third-party control systems.

Powertrac will produce modular containerized BESS units ranging from 1 MWh to 5 MWh, designed for grid support, peak shaving, renewable integration, and industrial backup applications.

Push for Solar + Storage Hybrid Solutions

The company said the investment will also accelerate deployment of solar-plus-storage hybrid energy solutions, combining generation and storage to deliver more stable and dispatchable renewable power. Hybrid projects are increasingly being adopted by utilities and commercial consumers to manage intermittency and improve energy security.

Industry experts note that domestic BESS manufacturing capacity will play a critical role as India scales up renewable energy installations and adds more storage-linked tenders.

Supports 1 GW IPP Target by 2030

Powertrac Group said the BESS manufacturing expansion supports its long-term roadmap to build 1,000 MW (1 GW) of operational Independent Power Producer (IPP) projects by 2030. Storage-backed assets are expected to form a key part of this portfolio, enabling round-the-clock and firm renewable power offerings.

Domestic Manufacturing

The announcement comes at a time when India is pushing local manufacturing of advanced energy technologies, including batteries and storage systems. Recent policy measures and duty exemptions on select battery manufacturing equipment are aimed at lowering capital costs and strengthening the domestic supply chain.

Based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Powertrac Group operates in solar energy, earthing systems, and lightning protection solutions, with manufacturing facilities in Surendranagar. The group has delivered more than 60 MWp of solar projects and manufactures solar modules, mounting structures, and electrical protection products.

With the latest ₹600 crore BESS investment, the company is positioning itself as a broader solar and energy storage solutions provider, targeting opportunities across grid-scale and hybrid renewable segments.

India aims to reach 500 GW non-fossil fuel power capacity by 2030. Supporting this clean energy push, Powertrac Group is investing ₹600 crore in a 1 GWh BESS manufacturing facility, helping strengthen energy storage and renewable integration across the grid.
