Galaxy Solar Energy signs ₹10,080 crore MoU with Maharashtra for integrated solar and BESS manufacturing facility

Galaxy Solar Energy has signed a ₹10,080 crore MoU with the Government of Maharashtra to set up an integrated solar cell and battery energy storage system manufacturing facility in Nagpur district.
Galaxy Solar Energy Pvt Ltd has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra to invest ₹10,080 crore in setting up an integrated solar cell and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility in Nagpur district.

The MoU was signed during the Advantage Vidarbha Summit, in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, reflecting strong government support for large-scale clean energy manufacturing investments in the state.

Integrated Solar and Energy Storage Manufacturing

According to the company, the proposed facility will manufacture solar cells and battery energy storage systems, bringing two key components of the renewable energy value chain under one integrated manufacturing setup. The combination of solar and storage manufacturing is increasingly critical as India accelerates renewable energy deployment and seeks solutions for grid stability and round-the-clock power supply.

The project will be developed in a phased manner, indicating a long-term investment strategy aligned with India’s clean energy growth plans.

Strengthening Domestic Supply Chains

India’s renewable energy sector continues to focus on reducing dependence on imported solar cells and energy storage components. Integrated manufacturing facilities such as the one proposed by Galaxy Solar Energy are expected to strengthen domestic supply chains and support the country’s broader clean energy and manufacturing goals.

The investment aligns with national initiatives including Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and the clean energy transition under the Urja Kranti India vision.

Nagpur and Vidarbha as Emerging Manufacturing Hubs

Nagpur’s central location, connectivity to major consumption centers, and expanding industrial infrastructure have made it an increasingly attractive destination for manufacturing investments. Over the past few years, the Maharashtra government has been actively promoting Vidarbha as a hub for clean energy and advanced manufacturing, supported by policy incentives and facilitation measures.

State officials have indicated that the project will receive support under applicable industrial and renewable energy policies to ensure smooth implementation.

Economic Impact and Employment Generation

The proposed facility is expected to generate significant direct and indirect employment during both the construction and operational phases. In addition to manufacturing jobs, the project is likely to benefit ancillary industries, logistics providers, and local MSMEs, contributing to broader regional economic development.

Supporting India’s Energy Transition

As India scales up renewable energy capacity and energy storage deployment to meet growing power demand and climate commitments, domestic manufacturing of solar cells and battery storage systems will play a crucial role.

Galaxy Solar Energy’s ₹10,080 crore investment highlights increasing confidence in India’s renewable energy manufacturing ecosystem and underscores the role of large-scale integrated facilities in supporting the country’s long-term clean energy and grid reliability goals.
